Climate
Climate

This region of the UK enjoys a temperate, maritime climate that is generally mild, considering its northern latitude.
During the winter, daytime temperatures rarely drop below 0°C, and are usually significantly milder than other locations in the world with similar latidues.
Summer temperatures are milder than other more southern areas of the UK, although this is hardly surprising given the location. Temperatures rarely exceed 22°C (72°F) during the summer months.
Coastal areas can see more severe extremes of climate. Scotland's capital, Edinburgh, is known as 'The Windy City', with prevailing winds coming from the south west of the UK, and associated with unstable - but warm - air from the North Atlantic Current that brings with it significant amounts of rain at times.
