Three General Elections in five years means that data changes very quickly, which presents challenges to us when it comes to keeping our Neighbourhood Reports up-to-date.
Our reports contain a local politics section, which contains data about each constituency that a postcode sits it. So, whenever there's a General Election (GE), it's all change.
Getting hold of this data is a major challenge. It can be difficult to track down the data for each constituency so soon after a GE takes place because it takes time to compile the information, get hold of profile photos for each new MP, update them with new cabinet titles (which also change all the time), and then drop them all into a database so that they are ready to be placed within our ZoomLocal neighbourhood reports.
In order to do this, I had to fetch the results data from official sources (including the BBC's Election Results pages), cross-referencing the data with my own constituency data.
But just two working days after the GE, that's now been completed. ZoomLocal founder Chris Haycock set aside a couple of days to compile all the results of the election, and has made it available here on ZoomLocal.
Please note that data is currently being updated in real-time as cabinet reshuffling takes place, MPs resign from their seats, and data is cross-referenced. However, as of today (Tuesday 17 Dec) we don't expect any further significant changes.
Feel free to download the full dataset as a CSV download below. We would be grateful if you reference ZoomLocal - with a link back here - if you use the data for your own purposes, although you are not obliged to do so.
